Life On Blast (beta-ish-esque?) is jumping off and going live tomorrow morning, ya’ll.
Here’s what it’s all about:
Life On Blast: Get Real
We are living in a strange time. Nothing is what it once was. Economy, environment, family… politics, religion, feminism… racism, romanticism, sexism… We are in economic crisis. Global warming is ripping us a new one. Families have evolved into anything but “a mommy a daddy and 2.5 kids.” We have our first African American president. 16% of the population claims to have no affiliation with any religion. What it means to be a feminist has evolved. Race relations are changing. What we expect from love is changing as divorce rates skyrocket.
The media is a main source of what tells us what “people” think, like… sit-coms and mainstream movies tell us what’s “cool” and how things “should be”, and set unrealistic expectations that life’s problems should be solved in 30 minutes to an hour and that say, fireworks will go off and trumpets will sound off when we meet “the one”. Unrealistic body images for both men and women are the media norm. Products that boast themselves “real!”, “genuine!”, “authentic!” are well, not.
I believe that there is an ever growing subculture that is craving a place to converse and share ideas about all of these things… but also about art, music, philosophy, theories, even business. Coming at it all from a different direction. From every direction. There are things that need to be said, and we need to be unafraid to say them. We need a place to sound off against each other, though not necessarily to argue. To debate, to inform, to learn from each others differences. The end result of that is a collective voice that refuses to be silenced. Minds opening, walls crumbling…
Life On Blast is your medium. Consider me the curator. If I have a topic that means something to me I will present it: but not to place myself on a soapbox. To open up a dialogue that allows you to express your stance as well. These topics are expressed through videos I curate from around the internet, videos I create myself for the Life On Blast channel, and blog posts. All of which encourage your involvement by offering video, audio, and text commenting. Reply to the post, reply to each other: just get talking!
The Life On Blast stance on Anonymous commenting:
I won’t take that option away from anyone but know this ahead of time:
Anonymous commenters don’t exist here.
So go ahead and scream into the sky because no one’s listening. If you can’t back up your opinions by saying who you are your opinions mean nothing in this context. Or any other one, for that matter. Life On Blast is about nurturing a culture where being unafraid to speak up about what you truly think and feel is standard practice.
Anonymity is for posers.
General Policy on Commenting:
You can say whatever you want. I am not here to censor anyone. No threats. No racial slurs. No spam. No other comment will ever be deleted. Ever.
The Life On Blast Collective:
My hope is that like minded individuals will connect here on the main site. But this is only here to inspire you. The Life On Blast collective isn’t just a social network. In fact, you can log in from your Facebook, AOL, Yahoo, Google, or Open ID account without ever registering. With respect to your privacy settings, your profile will be filled in with all your info from the start! You can add friends, create groups, comment on each others walls, view a feed of latest activity… you can upload unlimited video, audio, and image posts. You can create a blog. You can import RSS from places like Tumblr and Twitter to appear on your profile as a stream. You can converse and share ideas and topics in the message boards: all of which allow video, audio, and text commenting. And of course you can view the entire collectives uploads. I plan to select videos, posts, and topics from the collective to be featured on the main site. There is a lot planned for the collective, so get in where you fit in!
It’s worrisome.
